A long resume is perfectly acceptable, especially since most are processed by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) nowadays. However, if you're applying to a company where resumes are manually reviewed, you might want to condense it to one or two pages.
With a few adjustments to your resume's content and style, you can streamline it effectively. Here’s how:
Cut the unnecessary details and focus on key information.
- If you have added both Objective and Key qualifications, think about combining them in a single section.
- Remove the social links or just keep a single link.
- If it is not necessary you might remove the awards, others, and hobbies sections.
- Remove the details from the education section, if added. Unless critical for the role. To be on the safer side, before doing any of the above, create a new copy and edit the details in the newly created copy, so your old copy will stay intact.
Play with the Arrangements
option.
- Every section comes with arrangement options, which dictate how a section could be arranged.
- For experience, choose the arrangement option which shows the company, designation, and dates in a single line.
- For training/certifications, etc choose the
continuous
option, so that all the data will be shown in a single paragraph.
Adjust the font size and style and change to the mono (Roboto Mono, Space Mono, etc) fonts which generally take less space.
Remove the references from the resume (Go to More options
icon -> Control how many entries to show
, then set the No. of References to show
to 0) and get the references list in a separate references template (Do not worry, you will find a matching template).
If your resume content is small enough any template will become a single-page resume. However, templates 202-204 are most suitable to create the one-page resume.
